"Plyazhnaya Muzyka" (“Beach Music”) [bbt 012] is the first single from the in-production full-length conceptual album by Tomsk group ZVEZDY (Stars) — outstanding representatives of the Siberian contemporary post-punk wave.
Their music combines cold synth minimalism with a hypnotic beat, accompanied by distant vocals.
This is the music of lone nocturnal walks, deserted snowy streets and electric lights; it's the noir atmosphere in the landscape of the post-Soviet megapolis with its courtyards and high-rises. It's songs about the introverted generation's battle with itself, with fear and alienation, about dancing on the edge and about strangers with cat's eyes.
In their latest work the group have departed from their usual synth sound in the direction of raw, cold low-fi and mystical realism in their lyrics.
